In memory of

Kathy and Walter were killed in a tragic motorcycle accident on 30th March whilst on holiday in Florida. Immediately after their deaths, news spread through the Internet, newspapers and the television. Close family and friends received numerous messages of condolence and requests for information about when and where the funeral would take place.

This website was set up to provide information about the funeral arrangements, provide a place where messages of condolence could be left and where memories of Kathy and Walter could be shared.

The funeral service for both Kathy and Walter took place on April 14th at 1.30 p.m. at Wentworth Church. The church was full to overflowing. It is impossible to put into words the feelings of grief and tenderness that were all evoked during the service and these are perhaps best expressed through the growing numbers of messages of condolence that continue to be posted.

The funeral service was followed by a reception at the Ardsley House Hotel that was attended by over 300 people and (for a small group), lasted well into the evening. The cash donations to the Little Hearts Matter charity that were collected during the reception have so far totalled £950 with just over £1,100 donated online.

We would like to thank ALL who attended the funeral service and reception, particularly those who travelled long distances. We cannot imagine a more fitting memorial to two such talented individuals.

We would also like to thank you for the growing list of thoughts and condolences that have been a real source of inspiration and support during what has been a very difficult time.

Kathy and Walter were exceptional doctors and fantastic parents:

Walter was an outstanding cardiologist who was the youngest consultant in the country when he was appointed at the age of 32. He worked at Barnsley District Hospital for 15 years and along with his colleagues was responsible for a transformation in the way patients receive cardiology healthcare.

Kathy was a local GP at Woodgrove Surgery, Rotherham. She was a one off; flamboyant, engaging and patients loved her. She was a superb mother, an exceptional colleague, a talented and loving daughter and sister to Maureen.

They leave behind three teenage children.

The Star has published the first article that we have been able to find under the title 'Final Farewell to tragic doctors', that covers the funeral and includes a series of pictures from outside Wentworth Church.

After the accident, the story appeared on a large number of websites and in numerous newspaper articles. The links below are only a selection.
